Santiago de Compostela is a legendary city, one of the three existing Holy Cities in the world. That the tomb of the Apostle St. James (Santiago in Spanish) was discovered there is the most firmly accepted legend in the history of Spain. Moreover, this "city of stone" is of such great beauty that it seems to be imbued with a magical air, a trait which is mysteriously common throughout the Autonomous Community of Galicia. In 1985, UNESCO declared the city of Santiago de Compostela a World Heritage site. The city has been the goal of thousands of pilgrims, who have come from all over the world to venerate the Apostle. Among other awards, The Pilgrims' Way to Santiago has been given the title of First European Cultural Itinerary. Drive to the coast to the "Rias Bajas" for a cruise with local clams & wine on board.
